With the city in turmoil, agents of the enemy found it relatively easy to pass through the defenses of Altier undetected. Rather than simply slay the aristocracy, the leader of the enemy offered them the choice between death and immortal servitude. The majority of the aristocracy, including Terallion’s brother, Thaon, accepted the enemy’s bargain, damning themselves to oblivion and leaving the remaining Altierians to fend for themselves without any hope of rescue.
